About Merta Ada
Merta Ada, a Balinese holistic intuitive healer and meditation teacher, leads the Bali Usada Meditation Centre. Since 1993, he has taught healing and meditation techniques to more than 60,000 students throughout Southeast Asia.
Through his teaching, Merta Ada has helped many people heal themselves of grief, trauma, and disease arising from holding onto negative past experiences. Using his methods, students have also healed themselves of many illnesses including: allergies, asthma, hepatitis, cancer, impotency, tumors, high cholesterol, diabetes, arthritis, insomnia, high blood pressure, migraines, heart disease and skin problems. Some HIV-infected patients under his care have maintained good health for as long as eight years now.
Merta Ada is well respected for his work. The Bali Post gave him the “K. Nadha Nugraha” Award in 2001, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Balinese society, in teaching and healing thousands of people. He currently hosts a TV show about meditation that has been running since 2002. He also hosts a radio programme, which is broadcast worldwide via the Internet, by GlobalFM Bali.
Merta Ada is also currently working with the University of Hindhu in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia, to establish a Bachelor’s degree program in Alternative and Complementary Medicine. His Bali Usada Health Meditation Course will be one of the courses offered. Western-trained doctors and medical professionals at local hospitals, having seen the progress that patients made using Merta Ada’s techniques, also refer patients to his center.
Merta Ada has experienced a long journey of healing. Born in a poor Balinese mountain village, he contracted polio at the age of four. Unable to walk, he was carried by his mother from healer to healer, seeking a cure for his illness. Thus, he was exposed to various alternative therapies from a young age. This launched a lifelong study into holistic healing and spiritual techniques.
In his late teens, Merta Ada and his family started a garment business with an Australian partner. Before long, this business grew to be one of the largest garment exporters in Bali, employing more than 2,000 workers.
Meanwhile, Merta Ada continued to study alternative healing methods. He learned various systems, including ancient Balinese practices, Chinese medicinal philosophy, and Indian chakra techniques. He also studied with many meditation masters. These teachers include: Hindu spiritual teachers Mpu Kturan and Dang Hyang Nirartha; Chinese medicine healer Tiyah Balian; Buddhist priests Bante Giri Rakkhito Mahathera and Bhante Thitakhetuko Thera; Balinese healer Kak Balian; and many other meditation masters.
As the years passed, Merta Ada grew in his ability to heal other people. His family, friends and employees were the first to benefit from his ability to intuitively read and feel a person’s medical history. Then, as word quickly spread, other Balinese people started seeing him for advice and healing sessions.
In 1993, the garment factory was converted to a meditation teaching and retreat centre. Today, “Pak Merta” (literally Father or Mister Merta), as his students affectionately call him, conducts nearly 40 intensive meditation courses per year. The seven-day intensives comprise meditation, silence, etheric exercises and vegetarian meals. His methods also incorporate Balinese medicinal herbs, and crystal and sound healings.
Merta Ada teaches in the Indonesian cities of Bali, Medan, Palembang and Jakarta, as well as in Singapore.
